Looking At a Good Fan Page Welcome Page

Fan page set up and design is crucial to the success of your business page as a client attraction tool on Facebook.

Facebook is one of the most important online marketing tools for small businesses because a large percentage of your potential and current clients have a Facebook account and they are spending a lot of time there (you’re employees are too).

Facebook Fan Page Set Up and Design Steps:

A quality Facebook business page set up (or fan page) is essential to the growth of your business (Facebook advertising is important as well, but I’ll save that for later).

Step 1: Log into your Facebook account. If you don’t have an account create a personal account first (you used to have a personal account before you could create a fan page but it looks like now you can. See arrow at the bottom of the image below. But having a personal is important to understanding how social media works as you begin to market your business fan page.).

If you log into your account go to the very bottom right of the page and click Create A Page.

Facebook Set Up Step 2: Your next choice is to choose what type of business page you are going to create. Since your business is a local business choose Local Business Or Place.

Step 3: Fill out the form which is created once you click Local Business or Place.

After you finish this part of your Facebook business page set up you will come to a page that looks like a regular Facebook Page, but it’s not. It’s your Fan Page (business page). Congratulations!

You will be given a three or four step set up process where they ask you to upload an image, invite friends, etc. But I recommend skipping all that for now. Especially the inviting of friends and contacts to your page. You can do that later.

Facebook Set Up Step 4: Upload a profile picture for your fan page temporarily so that it doesn’t look deserted.

What you need to do is upload a big banner image that helps advertise your business. The maximum size for your Facebook fan page profile image is 540 pixels high by 180 pixels wide. Take advantage of that space.

Facebook Set Up Step 5: Now that you have your profile image taken care of, you should post a video or two and some posts on your wall to get your page looking a little ‘lived in’ so that when you invite friends to ‘Like’ your page you are giving them a reason to like it.

Step 6: Go out there and get some ‘Likes’ by inviting your friends and customers. There are many other ways of getting ‘Likes’ and customers using your fan page but for now we are just building a foundation.

Step 7: Next you should get your unique url for your business fan page. This is really important because people will be seeing an easy to remember URL like this (at the time of this writing you may have to get 25 likes before getting a unique URL):

http://www.facebook.com/royaltanandspa

But if you don’t’ get a unique URL for your fan page it will look something like this:

http://www.facebook.com/#!/salonspaexample?sk=wall

Here is where you go to get a unique Facebook URL.

Facebook business page set up and what you should have completed so far:

  • Created a Fan Page
  • Uploaded a Profile Picture/Banner
  • A Unique URL

Now you can start your basic marketing of your business fan page:

  • Invite Friends to ‘Like’ your page.
  • Invite Customers to ‘Like your page.

The next step is to set up a Welcome Page. Your Facebook welcome page is the page that ‘welcomes’ your visitor and is totally geared toward one or all of these things:

  • Getting contact information (their name and email address or more).
  • Getting ‘Likes’ to your page.
  • Re-Directing prospects to your website (offer).

Here is an example of a very good Facebook Welcome landing page:

ATTENTION — You should see a page that looks like this (sometimes Facebook loads the fan page wall instead):

This fan page set up is good. But we need to change a few things. It was built before Facebook made changes to the size of the actual landing page. Anyway, what we are going to do (and what you should consider doing) is:

  • Instead of having link or button that re-directs people to a website landing page with an offer, put the offer and sign up option for lead generation right on the fan page.

If you have questions about any of this or you want a killer business fan page set up, let me know…

Now that you know how to set up a fan page on Facebook you need to implement a social media marketing strategy and pay per click advertising on Facebook.
